The Gatorade Shower and Celebrating Coaches

It’s an age-old Super Bowl tradition – the team has won the big game; the crowd is going wild and the team shows their gratitude and affection for their leader by dumping a cooler of Gatorade all over him. He didn’t throw a single ball, make a single catch or score a single touchdown but when his team wins the Super Bowl he is arguably celebrated the most.It’s a classic moment of triumph. But for someone who didn’t play a minute of the game, why is the coach so highly celebrated?

Coaches are celebrated for their ability to convert the bitter pain of sacrifice into the sweet taste of victory. A great coach pushes his or her team to be the best they can be. They help them master their skills, keep them accountable when times are hard and inspire them to stay focused on winning!

Marshall Goldsmith - Triggers Book

As Marshall Goldsmith, author of Triggers, says so well,

“Coaching isn’t fixing losers;
it’s helping winners.”

At RRi, we are incredibly grateful to have an amazing group of coaches who provide trusted expertise with proven results to our coaching members. If you haven’t decided on coaching for yourself yet, I’d like to invite you to book a complimentary coaching session and see what our customized coaching program can do for your business.

So, as you watch the Super Bowl this Sunday, and you see the coach get showered with Gatorade, remember this – the players already know how to play the game, but the coach taught them how to win the game.

“A Coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, and has you see what you don’t want to see, so you can be who you have always known you can be.”
– Tom Landry, Ranked as one of the greatest and most innovative coaches in NFL history

It’s a beautiful life, make it count.
